Our debut ensemble, the Mississippi Alumni Allstar Band fondly known as "MAAB" has created a national presence since its first performance over 13 years ago, predating the Institutes formation, MAAB has provided an opportunity for nearly 1000 musicians to perform, maintain, and further develop musical/performance skills during it's summer programming, which is traditionally the off period for local and school ensembles.
Since its creation MAAB has built a network of over 5000 performers, directors/instructors, music arrangers, media personnel, and volunteers. During our summer program participants work for 6 weeks to prepare, learn, and perform over 50 musical selections known in the band community as a "book". After the 6-week rehearsal period, MAAB showcases its hard work at 3 yearly community battle of the bands including our very own Independance Showcase. Hosting between 200-350 volunteer performers each year consisting of current and alumni college band students from Jackson State University, Alcorn State University, and Mississippi Valley State University, as well as professional performers and music instructors with ties to Mississippi. MAAB has positioned itself as the premier community marching ensemble of the decade, creating a culture of community bands that have grown to span across the entire Southern United States.
