The Mississippi Music Institute (MMI) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to nurturing musical talent and fostering community in Jackson, Mississippi. Founded by the late Christopher Sanchez Little in 2011, MMI provides community ensembles, educational support, and resources for local music educators. With over 5,000 participants since our founding, MMI offers a creative outlet and career-building opportunities through signature programs like the Mississippi Alumni Allstar Band and the annual Independence Showcase. Looking forward, we aim to expand our impact in 2025 with new educational initiatives, ensembles, and music technology programs to empower Mississippi’s next generation of musicians.
The L.E.A.R.N (Learning Every Artist’s Real Needs) program addresses the socio-economic challenges facing young artists in Mississippi by advocating for better arts education and resources. Through mentorship, student surveys, and targeted programming, L.E.A.R.N. supports artistic development and helps create pathways for future success. With initiatives like the Our Students Survey, which elevates student voices, and the Windstar Program offering foundational music education, L.E.A.R.N. empowers aspiring musicians to grow and thrive within a supportive community.
At the Mississippi Music Institute, our ensembles are the heart of our community. By supporting our ensembles, you help provide young musicians with the resources, mentorship, and performance opportunities they need to thrive. Your contributions ensure that we can continue to offer high-quality music education and foster the next generation of talented artists. Join us in making a lasting impact on the musical landscape of Mississippi.
